This post is dedicated not to valentines day ( although I am sharing it on this day) but rather to an act of self love. Which you can express and create ANY day of the year. Same as showing love and kindness to your loved ones on every day – not only on the 14th. And it is important to give yourself some well deserved love on a daily basis. This way you attract love in other relationships. A sweet way to do this: treats + happy thoughts!

I have noticed a huge effect on the thoughts and care you put into the food while preparing it. It really starts there. What intention is behind it? When I make raw treats it is an act of self love. I choose the highest quality of ingredients with valuable substance. Through listening to my body I know what it needs and then I give – in form of nourishing food, rest, movement, meditation, affirmations.

Because my diet is mostly plant based I had some lack of protein in the last few years. I didn’t notice until I increased my diet in protein with more legumes, nuts, seeds and superfoods. I thought my problems stemmed from an iron deficiency – but it was then cured with just a simple change of the amount and quality of protein. My energy levels increased and I also played around with new combinations and recipes. One that stuck were the protein superfood bars. Sometimes I roll them into balls, but the bars are a fantastic snack or post workout food. They are incredibly nourishing and delicious with a hint of raw cacao, cardamom and hemp. They have become a staple in my fridge. Food for body, soul & mind = Self love!

Go and make them today with an intention of love and care for yourself!

makes 8 bars

1 cup brazil nuts
2 cups dates, pitted
1 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp almond butter
1 tbsp hemp seeds
3 tbsp desiccated coconut
1 tbsp raw cacao powder
1/2 tsp cardamom
a pinch of salt
mulberries, hemp seeds for topping

Start with the brazil nuts and dates in your food processor and mix them until a coarse dough forms. Add the oil and almond butter and pulse. Then add the rest of the ingredients and mix to combine. Prepare a glas container and baking paper. Form bars or balls with your hands and place them on the paper. Use some mulberries and hemp seeds for topping and press them gently into the bars. Enjoy like so or refrigerate for 1 hour. Store them in the glas container in the fridge, they stay fresh for 2-3 weeks.
